President’s Visit to United Arab Emirates (UAE)

United Arab Emirates is located in southwest of Asia. UAE is a federation of seven small emirates, namely Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Sharjah, Ajman, Fujairah, Ras al-Khaimah and Umm al-Quwain and was formed subsequent to gaining independence from Great Britain on Dec 2, 1971. UAE has one of the largest fuel reserves of the world and its GDP per capita touches GDP of the richest countries in Western Europe. Currently, Dubai serves as commercial capital of UAE.

His Excellency Mohammad Ashraf Ghani, president of Islamic Republic of Afghanistan, on Tuesday 23 Jady (Jan 14) last year, paid a two-day visit to UAE. President Ghani separately met in Abu Dhabi with Sheikh Mohammad Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, crown prince of Abu Dhabi and successor of UAE’s Commander in Chief, head and members of Abu Dhabi Fund for Development, head and members of Abu Dhabi Chamber of Commerce as well as Afghan labors resided at UAE.

The president has always tried to enhance economic status of the country, and UAE can be a suitable model for Afghanistan with respect to its experience in economic advancement. Good investment opportunities that are available in Afghanistan are in areas of aviation, telecommunications, extraction of fuel and gas, marbles, agriculture especially cultivation of saffron and other economic sectors in which UAE is interested to invest.

Among many important achievements of the trip, endorsed long-term cooperative agreement finalized between National Security Advisor of Afghanistan Mohammad Hanif Atmar and Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Anwar Mohammad Qarqash are mentionable.  According to this agreement, each government is committed to long-term partnership and friendship based on mutual respect for sovereignty of both governments and for shared interests in political, security, economic, cultural, governance and rule of law areas.

Another achievement of the trip was that from now on, in accordance with the agreement between Afghan president and UAE’s Official, Afghan labors can directly enter UAE for work with their Afghan passports.
